In the opening match for the U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team they lost star forward Brianna Decker. In the first period, Brianna Decker got entangled with Finland's Ronja Savolainen and suffered a lower-leg injury. She was removed from the ice on a stretcher. It appears she will miss the rest of the Olympics.
Decker was a key player for the women's team. In the 2018 Olympic Games she led the team in assists. The 5-2 defeat of Finland was bittersweet due to the injury to Decker, an assistant team captain. She was later seen standing on crutches, a walking boot on her left leg.
