Herb Brooks came to the U of M in 1956 via St. Paul Johnson High School. As a Gopher, Brooks was a goal scorer and was known for his speed and intensity. Brooks then went on to play on two Olympic and five U.S. National teams over the next decade before coming home to take over as the head coach of the Golden Gophers in 1972.
