In late December, former New York Rangers head coach David Quinn was named head coach of the 2022 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Coaching Staff. With about a month until the start of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics men's ice hockey tournament, on Thursday five assistant coaches were added to the coaching staff. The announcement of the assistant coaches comes on the heels of invitations that went out to 15 players to join the 2022 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team. The new assistant coaches are:
- Mike Hastings - head men’s ice hockey coach at Minnesota State University
- Brett Larson - head men’s ice hockey coach at St. Cloud State University
- Scott Young - a member of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame
- David Lassonde - national goaltending coach for USA Hockey
- Alex Dawes - video coach at Penn State University
In an additional announcement on Thursday, Nate LaPoint is heading to China for the 2022 Olympic Winter games as an equipment manager for the U.S. Men's Olympic Hockey Team.
The team will set their sites on finishing higher than the 2018 U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team that finished in seventh place at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games.
